3 reasons why Acupuncture is uniquely qualified to treat pain.
1. Pain is pain...right? Not even close! In Chinese medicine we understand that the cause of pain may be vastly different for people. A headache for example. The location, quality, time of day/month/night that it happens may change what our treatment plan is. Does pressure feel good or bad, does heat help or do you crave a cool cloth. These questions lead acupuncturists to understand not only the quality of the pain, but the cause as well. One aspirin does not fit all!
2. Don't touch that! Do you remember being a kid and finding a bruise on your leg? How often did you push on it only to find that pushing on it hurts! Lets face it, sometimes the idea of someone touching a painful spot is just too much to handle. No problem. Acupuncture has so many avenues for treatments that if one spot hurts we can treat the distally or far away. And often times a few points far away change the nature of the pain so totally that the point no longer hurts at all. Lets hear it for how cool acupuncture channels are!!
3. Terrified of needles? I totally get it. Shots suck! Always have and always will. Here are a few things about acupuncture needles. They are solid, not hollow so they don't carve through the skin. Secondly they are super tiny, really! You can easily fit 15 or so acupuncture needles in one injection tip. Tiny! Still uncomfortable? Chinese medicine practitioners have a ton of tools in our tool box, not just needles. We can use Cupping, Moxabustion, Acupressure points, tuning forks, seeds, dermal rollers, and herbs. Being uncomfortable with needles should never prevent you from seeing an acupuncturist!!
